Wendy Rhodes is a printmaker and draughtswoman whose practice is rooted in walking as a way of understanding landscape. Working across rural footpaths, coastlines and agricultural environments, she records places shaped equally by human intervention and the quiet persistence of nature.

Every work begins with drawing. Returning to the same locations throughout the seasons, Wendy builds a visual diary of textures, structures and fleeting observations. Influenced by ideas of walking and wayfaring, her work explores landscape through experience rather than representation.

Working almost exclusively in monochrome, she uses graphite and charcoal before translating her drawings into meticulously hand-etched copper plates. Through traditional intaglio printmaking, layers of line and texture mirror the slow accumulation of time, weather and memory within the landscape itself.

Printed by hand in small editions on heavyweight Somerset paper, each etching carries the physical impression of the copper plate, reinforcing the materiality of its making. Quiet, contemplative and deeply observed, Wendy's work encourages a slower way of looking—finding beauty in worn paths, resilient trees and the subtle marks that reveal a place's enduring character.
