The heartbeat of MOR Studio resonates with the rhythms of nature. Situated in the rural tranquillity of the English countryside, our small business allows us to stay grounded in the very essence of what we love most—nature, simplicity, and the joy that comes from embracing the changing seasons.

Starting this business wasn’t just about creating beautiful candles; it was about crafting a life that could merge the creative energy of running a business with the peaceful retreat of rural living. It was an invitation to connect deeply with the land, to observe nature’s patterns, and to live in tune with the rhythms that have long guided us. As we head into the height of summer, we find ourselves reflecting on how the balance between business and nature has shaped our lives and work.

Nature as a Teacher: Learning from the Land

When we first started MOR Studio, we envisioned a business that didn’t just operate in the commercial world, but one that could also live and breathe within the natural world. Living in the countryside, we knew we would be held accountable to observe the subtle shifts of nature—each bloom, each gust of wind, each golden hour of light. In a world where time often feels compressed, nature’s rhythms were the reminder we needed to slow down and take stock of what truly matters.

The changing of seasons isn’t just a backdrop for our work; it shapes it. From the first buds of spring to the slow, full bloom of summer, each season offers its own gifts—and challenges. The ebb and flow of nature, from the lush growth of our garden to the quiet calm of a summer evening, is an ongoing source of inspiration. The natural world holds us accountable to observe, learn, and reflect on what’s happening around us. And as we grow our business, we take those lessons to heart.

Business as a Way to Connect: Sharing Seasonal Wisdom

What makes MOR Studio truly special is the opportunity to share the joy we receive from nature. Each candle, each scent, is a story we tell about the seasons—the fresh, dewy mornings of early spring, the warm, spicy air of late summer, the deep, woody scents of autumn, and the fresh, clean fragrances of winter. These are more than just candles to us; they’re expressions of our connection to the land, to the garden, to the cycles of growth and change that we witness every year.

Our business has also become a way to share the seasonal wisdoms we’ve learned along the way. Over time, we’ve come to deeply appreciate the small moments that mark the passage of time—sowing seeds in the spring, harvesting herbs in summer, taking time to rest as the seasons change. These rhythms are things we lean into, and they’ve shaped the way we approach our work, our design process, and our connection to the community. Whether it’s learning from the garden, reflecting on the summer solstice, or preparing for the harvest, we feel more grounded by connecting our work to the natural world.

Sharing these seasonal insights with you has become one of our greatest joys. From blog posts about preserving the summer’s bounty to tips for making the most of the garden in early autumn, we love offering the knowledge we’ve gathered and continue to gather. Every season brings new lessons and moments of discovery, and we’re thrilled to pass those along, knowing they resonate with so many of you.

Creating Space for Nature: The Balance Between Business & Life

Running a business in the countryside has given us the chance to weave nature seamlessly into our daily routine. There’s no “9-to-5” here; the pace of our work is influenced by the pace of the seasons. Summer, for example, is a time of abundance. The garden is in full bloom, the paddock hums with life, and the air is thick with the sounds of summer. It’s a time to harvest, to pause, and to share the fruits of our labour with others.

But it’s also a time to rest, to reflect, and to take joy in the small moments. There’s a balance we’ve learned to strike between productivity and restfulness, between creation and reflection. On hot summer days, we might spend the morning in the studio working on new designs or preparing a new candle collection, but by afternoon, the pull of the garden or a walk through the paddock often takes priority. These moments of pause are vital—not just for our well-being but for the creative process. We’ve learned that, in business, taking time to step outside and reconnect with nature can often lead to our best ideas and a renewed sense of purpose.

The Rhythm of Rural Life

In the summer, as nature unfolds around us, we’re reminded of how closely business and nature can be intertwined. The act of creating, sharing, and reflecting on the changing seasons grounds us in a way that’s hard to put into words. This business has given us a retreat into nature—a place to observe, to learn, and to connect more deeply with the world around us. It’s a balance that we’re grateful for every day, and it’s a rhythm that we’ve come to cherish as part of our journey.

Thank you for being part of that journey with us. Your support and shared love for nature help us continue to lean into the rhythms of the land, and we can’t wait to keep sharing the seasonal joy with you in the months to come.

NEWSLETTER

MŌR is a creative gathering, moving in rhythm with the year’s turning.

We bring together artists and makers, works and objects, each attuned to the textures and gestures of the present season. a quiet conversation between material, maker, and moment, attentive to the subtleties of time and place.

The studio is a site of ongoing dialogue — between artists and land, between craft and ritual, between what we make and how we live. Our space is small by design, inviting close looking, presence, and reflection.

Here, curation is considered, selection deliberate, and each piece leaves its mark long after you depart.

Move slowly, notice more, leave differently than you arrived.

Thank You!
