Pamela Thorby.
Bottle Vase.
Porcelain.
Pamela Thorby has exchanged a distinguished international career as a musician for a new life in craftsmanship, creating and firing her unique wheel-thrown ceramics in her York studio and previously operating studio and shop here in Nunnington.
Her love of clay began while collecting ceramics on her travels as a touring musician, but since 2018, clay—rather than music—has become the medium through which she connects head, heart, and hands.
Working primarily in porcelain, Pamela explores rhythm, gesture, and balance in forms that are both sculptural and functional. Her pieces reflect the same improvisational sensitivity that once defined her musical performances, seeking to capture a sense of movement, harmony, and quiet strength. Porcelain’s luminosity and timelessness offer her an ideal language for translating sound into form—creating objects that invite both contemplation and everyday use.
Pamela continues to evolve as a maker, guided by curiosity, precision, and the enduring interplay between material, emotion, and artistry.
