Sculpture
ABOUT
Juliet Gutch and Alice Fox bring together distinct practices rooted in material, landscape and close observation of the natural world.
Their collaborative work begins with materials gathered rather than bought. Alice works with plants and fibres grown, found and harvested from her allotment and immediate surroundings, exploring their potential through slow processes of gathering, drying, twisting and making. Juliet’s practice is grounded in wood, structure and sculptural form, with an instinctive sensitivity to balance, movement and the inherent character of natural materials.
Together, they allow material to lead. Sycamore wood is combined with bindweed gathered from Alice’s allotment, transforming an overlooked, often unwanted plant into something with structure, purpose and presence. Their suspended works hold a deliberate tension between control and unpredictability: carefully constructed, yet responsive to air, movement and their surroundings.
The collaboration is an exercise in resourcefulness and attention — finding possibility in what is already present. Rather than imposing form upon material, Gutch and Fox work with its irregularities, limitations and behaviours, creating pieces that remain visibly connected to where they began.
