ABOUT
LaKrista Morton makes ceramics shaped by close attention to place, material and process.
Working from her studio near Inverness, LaKrista creates simple, functional forms with surfaces inspired by small moments in the landscape — textures, colours, stillness and movement.
Her materials are often gathered close to home. Wood ash from her own stove and from a local wood-fired pizza business, found clay, oxides and natural materials become glazes and surfaces, giving new purpose to what might otherwise be discarded.
LaKrista’s background in science brings another layer to the work. She uses careful, systematic testing — including tri-axial and line blends — to understand how different materials behave and how their qualities can be brought to the surface.
The result is work that feels both considered and elemental: tactile ceramics where process remains visible, natural materials are allowed to speak, and no two surfaces are quite the same.
