  • About Rachel

From her workshop in the quiet folds of Dumfries and Galloway, Rachel Ashcroft works in close dialogue with the land, shaping timber into objects that exist somewhere between function and sculpture. Trained first in fine art and later drawn to the discipline of wood, her practice carries both sensibilities — an artist’s intuition paired with a maker’s deep respect for material.

Each piece begins not with an idea imposed, but with a plank discovered. Storm-fallen, weather-marked, or quietly imperfect, the wood she selects already holds a story. Rachel’s role is to reveal it. Through a slow and considered process, she planes, studies, and responds — allowing the grain, knots, and natural rhythm of the timber to guide the final form.

There is a quiet honesty in her work. Nothing is forced; nothing is repeated. Every object is a singular expression of place, shaped by the landscapes that surround her and the materials they offer.

In this way, Rachel’s pieces carry more than utility. They hold a sense of origin — a connection to land, to time, and to the enduring beauty of working with what already exists.

NEWSLETTER

MŌR is a creative gathering, moving in rhythm with the year’s turning.

We bring together artists and makers, works and objects, each attuned to the textures and gestures of the present season. a quiet conversation between material, maker, and moment, attentive to the subtleties of time and place.

The studio is a site of ongoing dialogue — between artists and land, between craft and ritual, between what we make and how we live. Our space is small by design, inviting close looking, presence, and reflection.

Here, curation is considered, selection deliberate, and each piece leaves its mark long after you depart.

Move slowly, notice more, leave differently than you arrived.

Thank You!
