About Katie
Born in Shropshire and now living and working on the island of Gozo, Malta, Katie Sims approaches painting as a form of quiet communion — an act of listening as much as making. Her practice moves through repetition, restraint and removal, searching for a fragile balance between presence and absence. Constraints become a devotional tool: a way of paring back toward something essential, unresolved and deeply human.
The works presented in Pictures of Nothing continue this meditation through a gentle subversion of the etching process. Created from zinc plate and released in limited editions of thirteen, the prints emerge as traces rather than declarations — marks carried by time, pressure and silence. Each piece holds reverence for what reveals itself through process rather than control.
Sims’ work inhabits a liminal territory where distinctions soften and certainty dissolves. Through layered surfaces, hesitant forms and acts of erasure, she creates spaces that ask for slower looking; works that resist conclusion and instead remain suspended in quiet tension.
