Maria Willi
Platter. Peony
Working from her London studio, Maria of MW.Ceramics creates functional objects informed by the natural world, bringing an instinctive understanding of organic form to her practice.
With a background in floristry, Maria’s relationship with nature is rooted in the shapes, structures and irregularities of flowers and foliage. This influence carries through into her ceramics, where botanical references meet the practical demands of everyday use.
Rediscovering clay after moving to London, Maria developed a practice that balances playful experimentation with an appreciation for traditional handmaking. Her work celebrates the unexpected — subtle variations in form, considered details and the character that comes from working by hand.
For GATHER, Maria introduces pieces that bring a sculptural quality to the table, exploring the relationship between natural forms, function and the objects we choose to live with. Ceramics intended not simply to be admired, but handled, used and enjoyed.
