Janine Baldwin’s work is the expression of a lifelong affinity with the landscape. Living on the wild North Yorkshire coast, she draws constant inspiration from the shifting dialogue between land and sea. Her practice does not seek to reproduce nature literally, but to celebrate its sensory force—the energy of wind, the rhythm of waves, the quiet persistence of new growth. Each drawing and painting becomes a translation of place, distilled into marks, textures, and colour. 
 
Her practice combines drawing and collage, layering pastel, charcoal, graphite, paint, and oil stick. Through mark-making and abstraction, she distils the essence of place: a fresh green recalling new leaves, a rounded form echoing pebbles smoothed by the tide. Influenced by Abstract Expressionism, and by artists such as Willem de Kooning, Joan Eardley, and Cy Twombly, Janine creates works that are both deeply personal and universally resonant.
 

A passionate conservationist, she has volunteered with the North York Moors National Park since 2006, planting trees and protecting habitats. This care for the land feeds directly into her practice, making each artwork both celebration and act of guardianship.
