A pair of raw fleece rugs woven during the summer months of 2026.
Each rug was made during, and responding to, the process of new growth on the
land where my flocks graze – the small flock numbers supporting plant diversity.
Both pieces are made from the fleeces shorn from leader of the Shetland-Soay
flock, ewe Bumblebee (cream) and a second-in-command wether, Zippy (black
brown).
For each piece I draw only from the fleece I have chosen for the weave, even as
the wool gets harder to work with; I like to use every last bit I can to shape into
usable weft. My leftovers are made into Byre coasters or go to the garden
compost.
For the bedside to step onto first and last thing; to rest on by the fireside and to
sit on in those moments when you choose to pause, breathe and connect.
Handwoven from raw, unspun wool in Inverness-shire, Scotland by Julia Rebaudo.
